KEYNOTE SPEAKER - DR. JOSH ROOSE

Dr. Josh Roose, Associate Professor of Politics, Deakin University
Dr. Josh Roose is Associate Professor of Politics at Deakin University (Melbourne). His research sits at the intersection of politics, law, sociology, and religion, with a focus on political and religious violent extremism and terrorism. He was a Chief Investigator on the ARC-funded project The Far Right: Intellectuals, Masculinity and Citizenship (2021–2023) and is lead Chief Investigator on the ARC project Anti‑Women Online Movements; Pathways and Patterns of Participation (2022–2025). He also works with agencies including the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Defence, the Office of the eSafety Commissioner, and the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety.
An internationally recognised authority on masculinities and extremist ideologies, Dr Roose has delivered keynote and invited presentations, provided training for government, and served as an expert witness in terrorism cases and inquests. His work has informed outlets including The New York Times, BBC, The Washington Post, and major Australian media. He is President of the Australian Association for the Study of Religion (AASR).

Dr. Brenton Cooper, Co-Founder
& CEO, Fivecast
As leader of Fivecast, Dr Brenton Cooper drives innovation in the security industry through the application of world‑leading data science to open‑source intelligence (OSINT). He was formerly CTO of the Data To Decisions CRC, a $100 million collaborative research initiative addressing data analysis challenges facing Australia’s national security agencies, which led to the formation of Fivecast.
Brenton holds a PhD in neural networks and brings more than 30 years’ experience across technology and management roles.
Chris Taylor, Head of the Statecraft
& Intelligence Policy Centre, ASPI
Chris Taylor is Head of ASPI’s Statecraft and Intelligence Policy Centre, specialising in intelligence, national security strategy, protective security, counter‑espionage and counter‑terrorism.
His research focuses on emerging challenges facing intelligence agencies and the role of intelligence in democratic statecraft. With over 20 years’ senior national‑security experience, including 15 years in the Senior Executive Service, he is also a former Harvard Belfer Center Fellow.
Dr. Sarah James, Senior Data Scientist
Fivecast
Dr. Sarah James is a Senior Data Scientist at Fivecast, where she is a key contributor to the research, development, and integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning tools that enhance Fivecast OSINT solutions.
Sarah’s expertise in statistical analysis and predictive modeling provides a unique and valuable perspective in the field of open-source intelligence, with a strong focus on uncovering hidden patterns and enhancing decision-making capabilities within intelligence and national security domains.
Meg Tapia, Managing Director, Novexus
& Expert Associate, ANU
Meg Tapia is Managing Director of Novexus and an Expert Associate at the ANU National Security College. A national security adviser with over 20 years’ experience, she specialises in intelligence capability, information integrity and counter‑disinformation; serving as a Non‑Resident Fellow with the Princeton Irregular Warfare Initiative in 2025.
A former diplomat with 16 years’ service in Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Afghanistan, she is a Brookes Scholar, recipient of the Australian Operational Service and NATO Medals, co‑founder of The Paragon Alliance
Joe Morris, Managing Partner,
Control Risks
Joe Morris is Managing Partner at Control Risks, leading the Australia‑Pacific team delivering specialist risk consulting across operational and protective security, geopolitics and strategic intelligence, digital risk, and the built environment and infrastructure.
He supports organisations navigating complex risk in areas including major projects, crisis response, M&A, and new market entry. Joe has held roles in Control Risks’ London and Singapore offices and brings deep experience in intelligence‑led investigations, due diligence, political risk analysis, and forensic investigations. He holds an MBA with Distinction and is a Certified Fraud Examiner.
Davina Mansfield, Head of Program Delivery & Impact,
Crime Stoppers International
Davina Mansfield leads Program Delivery and Impact at Crime Stoppers International, overseeing initiatives that support intelligence‑led crime prevention and disruption across global networks. She is also Head of Innovation & Industry Partnership at UNSW Canberra, working at the intersection of government, industry, and academia.
Davina brings extensive experience delivering complex programs in international and multi‑stakeholder environments, with a strong focus on collaboration and measurable impact.
Andrew Wright, Associate Director

Andrew Wright is Associate Director at Protegas Australia, an intelligence capability provider supporting public and commercial sector clients. He brings over 27 years’ experience in intelligence collection and analysis across domestic and international environments.
Previously, Andrew led AUSTRAC’s Indonesia Programs, delivering capacity-building and operational outcomes with Government of Indonesia partners and stakeholders to advance bilateral and regional AML/CTF objectives.
Derek Dalton, Advisor to the Board, x-RD
& Senior Fellow, ASPI
Derek is an advisor to the board of Canberra-based technology company, x-RD. Prior to this, Derek enjoyed a distinguished three-decade career in the Australian national intelligence and policy community, leading complex international and domestic intelligence operations and partnerships.
Derek remains fascinated by the human-dimensions of technology and the evolving intersection between people, leadership, technology and security. When not supporting x-RD, Derek is also a senior fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute with a special interest in helping people understand today’s complex security environment.
Matt Winlaw, CEO & Managing Director

Matt Winlaw advises public and private-sector organisations on intelligence-led risk mitigation and digital threat strategy. Working at the intersection of cyber defence, open-source intelligence, and advanced digital threat analysis, he delivers decision-grade insight in complex, high-risk environments.
His expertise spans hostile state activity, influence operations, organised crime networks, insider risk, and emerging AI-enabled threats. Matt supports public agencies and critical private enterprises to strengthen defensive posture, safeguard mission-critical operations, and build long-term resilience through structured, evidence-based frameworks.
Shohei Sekiya, Project Manager
Japan Nexus Intelligence
Shohei Sekiya is a Project Manager at Japan Nexus Intelligence (JNI), a Tokyo-based firm specialising in disinformation detection, open-source intelligence (OSINT) analysis, and strategic communications. At JNI, he leads projects supporting government agencies and private-sector clients, providing intelligence insights based on OSINT and translating them into actionable strategic communication initiatives.
His professional experience centres on the Indo-Pacific region, where he has worked on projects related to geopolitical information dynamics, narrative competition, and the strategic use of information in security and policy contexts.
