AI and Misinformation Symposium
Adelaide Oval | 17 June
Fivecast will convene an AI and Misinformation Symposium on 17 June at Adelaide Oval, bringing together decision‑makers, researchers, and practitioners from government, Defence, industry, and academia.
The symposium will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping the misinformation landscape, examining both the risks introduced by generative AI and the technical, collaborative responses emerging across the intelligence community. It has been curated as a focused forum designed to build shared understanding, surface open questions, and support practical collaboration in response to AI‑enabled mis‑ and disinformation.

The symposium is supported by the AIPIO David Irvine Memorial Award, an annual recognition dedicated to honouring an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the progression of intelligence in Australia.
The 2025 recipient of the award is Dr Brenton Cooper. The award includes a grant intended to encourage ongoing innovation and contribution to the intelligence profession, which is being applied to support this symposium.
Funding from the award is being used to facilitate applied discussion and exploration of generative and agentic AI in the context of misinformation and influence, bringing together perspectives from across government, Defence, industry, and academia.
Mis‑ and disinformation have long been issues of concern for Defence and intelligence communities. As generative AI becomes more accessible, influence activity has increased in scale, speed, and sophistication. At the same time, AI also presents new opportunities for detection, analysis, and informed response.
This symposium is designed to examine both sides of the AI and misinformation challenge, without promoting specific tools, technologies, or outcomes.
